Camp
Everything is re-organised and ready for Camp Coolum (28-30 March)! You will have received your camp information by now. Please return forms as soon as possible.
St. Patrick's Day
Students might like to have a bit of fun while learning about St. Patrick, by wearing green on the 17th March. Please bring a gold coin. My curly green wig can't wait to be worn by me on Thursday.
Volunteer Induction
If you haven't completed your volunteer induction and you have a green tick, please arrange a time to do your training. All volunteers (tuckshop, reading, camp...) need to meet both requirements.
Student Voice in Learning
This week I will interview students about learning and I will share student responses in the next newsletter.
Tara Show
Well done to the parents and staff who worked tirelessly preparing food before the Tara Show and feeding the showgoers the most delicious Fildelish food.
St. Joseph's Day
This Friday the school community will remember and celebrate all things St. Joseph. A prayer reflection will be followed by team activities including a St. Joseph treasure hunt, pop quiz, art, prayer meditation and pizza! There is no cost for the St. Joseph's Day 'funtivities'.
Three way learning meetings
Expect to receive a three way learning meeting schedule from your teacher this week. Parents and carers are to select their preferred three meeting times. During the meeting, students, parents and teachers will dialogue about your child's wellbeing and learning growth over the term to celebrate success and collaboratively support your child's future progress.
Open and Transition Day
Interested parents and students are warmly invited to come and see what our amazing St. Joseph's School has to offer your child on Wednesday 23 March from 8.30-10.30 a.m. You can meet the students, parents and staff, take a tour with the Principal, find out what we stand for, join the learning environment and make new friends. Masks are not required so come along.

PROJECT COMPASSION
The theme of Project Compassion 2022 is ‘For All Future Generations’. It is an expression of hope and reminds us that the good that we do today will extend and impact the lives of generations to come. It invites us to make the world a better place by working together now and finding long-term solutions to global issues.
This year’s theme comes from the biblical story of Noah’s Ark. More specifically, when the flood waters subsided, a dove returned with an olive branch indicating a new beginning. God set a rainbow in the sky as a sign of a special and unbreakable relationship with the human family and the entire earth.
During Lent we encourage St. Joseph's students to be the pebble that creates the ripples that will improve the livelihoods of vulnerable communities, supporting them to flourish and create
opportunities for future generations to live to their full potential and thrive.
Think about yourself in 10 years time, 20 years time, 50 years time. How old will you be then? What do you hope your life will be like? What do you need to do now to make that future possible?
When we take care of each other and the earth now, the future is hopeful for everyone: for us and for all future generations. God said, ‘This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations.’ Genesis 9:12
As we learn about the needy in Mozambique, India, Australia, Solomon Islands and the Congo you might like to participate in some activities to support these communities. Last week, Hoopla raised $130 which is mighty effort!
Year 3-6 are running Games Galore next Tuesday 22 March. $2 a go.
Prep-2 are selling Cupcakes Friday 25 March. $2 each.
All money raised goes to Project Compassion.
PROJECT COMPASSION PRAYER
We thank you for the gift of our lives and for the life of every person, both near to us and far away.
We thank you for the wonder of all your creation.
This Lent draw us deeper into the warmth
and light of God's love.
May we see the world more clearly, especially those who are overlooked.
May we come closer to your heart, which you showed through the cross of Jesus.
May we be full of hope for all future generations.
We ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.
Photo Time
A big congratulations to our Rubie Warwick for winning the Annual Miss Tara Show Girl for 2022. We couldn't be more proud of her.

Father Jack's Message
Jesus suffered, died and rose from the dead. We have heard this before. Yet we have to put ourselves in the picture and reflect on the importance of this event.
There is a Latin saying that says "What is received is received and is received according to the mode of the receiver". In other words, it doesn’t matter how simply I say something and no matter how important my message is, if the mind of the listener is not prepared to hear the message they want.
This is true of the resurrection of Jesus.
We have to take time out to reflect and see the deep meaning of Jesus’ importance.
Shalom
Fr Jack MacGinley

LEARNING AT ST JOSEPH'S
Year 3 - 6
It has been a whirl wind of a Term, especially as we started two weeks later than scheduled. May I first welcome our Year Threes and our new students to our class, Marcella and Jasmine and their parents.
This Term we have been examining the text, ‘No Room on our Rock’ with focusses on a different point of view and in including others. In Maths, we have been engaged in thinking prompts, number talks, in place value, number sentences and number equations. These are the building blocks to most Maths. In our Science unit, ‘Friends and Foes’, we have explored and examined flower parts and pollination. Our Religion unit has looked at Prophets and asking ourselves, "What is ‘Faith’ and what does this look like in our everyday life?" Students have also been engaged in sketching stills with shade and perspective in art and in creating scenes in code in technology.
May I ask parents to gently check that students are completing their homework. It is their job to get it done. They receive very little, but it does entail revision tasks – revision of Spelling, Revision of Math facts and Reading.
Please feel free to see me at any time, just let me know. You don’t have to wait until the three-way interviews.
God bless,
Ann Smith

Thank you to the families that have returned their volunteer forms. Our school runs on Volunteers, without your help many of the fun activities and programmes undertaken here at school would be impossible.

Wellbeing
Have fun with the daily activities on our Happiness Calendar. See how many you can achieve. We will also be focusing on a different Key to Happiness (below) each fortnight.
Our Ninth Key to Happiness is - Acceptance.
Self-acceptance vs. Self-esteem
Both self-acceptance and self-esteem are generally positively associated with psychological wellbeing, however there are differences between these, especially when it comes to how we pursue them.
Self-acceptance is an awareness of both the positive and negative aspects of our self, while maintaining an attitude of positive regard. It’s been associated with reduction in psychological ill-health and is integral to wellbeing. Albert Ellis, a renowned psychologist, described two choices: accepting ourselves conditionally (i.e., only under certain conditions, for example when we succeed) or unconditionally (under all circumstances). The first choice he proposed is harmful. If we don’t fulfil the conditions we set our self and fail, we think we are a loser or ‘good for nothing’ rather than accepting failing as a normal part of life and learning from it. When we accept ourselves unconditionally, we recognise that there will be times we perform well but we’ll also make mistakes and sometimes fail. Acceptance involves acknowledging the “unvarnished facts” of ourselves and our situation – the good and the not so good, without judging ourselves. Rather than this causing us to be stuck with things as they are, acceptance is the foundation for growth and change.
Self-esteem is our sense of value or worth. It is based on judgement about how good we are in specific areas of our lives (e.g. performance at school, work or in sport or in relationships) or relative to other people. As it can be dependent on our judgements about success or failure or on comparison to others it can be fragile.
The pursuit of self-esteem can lead us to overly focus on, or inflate, the positive aspects of ourselves and our performance and ignore or hide areas we don't feel good about. Our need for high self-esteem, to feel good about ourselves in this way, can make it harder for us to seek and accept negative feedback, even if this is constructive, so making self-improvement more difficult. It can also cause us to feel angry or defensive when our self-esteem us threatened.
One practical way we can develop self-acceptance is through learning to be self-compassionate.

Tuckshop
ROSTER
We are in urgent need of helpers for tuckshop duty on Thursdays. We would love to see everyone joining in. It usually works out that you're rostered on twice a term. But with 'More hands making light work' it would certainly be less. Without your help tuckshop will not be able to continue.
