    From the Principal

    Principal

    Dear parents and carers,

    Term 2

Happy Easter and welcome to Term 2! We welcome two new students, Katie and Cooper, and their families, to our St. Joseph's Tara community.

    Public holidays

Term 2 begins with three short weeks. Week 1 gave us the Easter Monday holiday followed by a Professional learning day for teachers on the Tuesday.

In Week 2, Monday 25 April is the Anzac Day holiday. I invite you and your child to march with the school in the ANZAC Day parade. Please assemble at the True Value corner at 10.15 a.m. St. Joseph's students will be  carrying the flag,  laying a wreath and raising the flag during the ceremony.  It is important that students engage in important community events such as ANZAC DAY.

In Week 3,  we have another public holiday (Labour Day) on Monday 2 May.

    Prep vision

Prep students who returned their forms or whose carer registered online, participated in a FREE vision screener this morning. Thank you to Sonya from Queensland Primary Health for supporting our prep students' vision and readiness for learning.

    Three way learning meetings

If you missed your three way (student-parent-teacher) at the end of last term due to sickness, flooding or any other reason, please contact your child's teacher to arrange an appointment. These learning meetings play a vital role in supporting your child's wellbeing and learning success.

    NAPLAN

Students in Year 3 and 5 will participate in  national literacy and numeracy tests known as NAPLAN (Writing, Reading, conventions of Language and Numeracy) from 10-17 May. These tests provide teachers with additional information about student and year level learning strengths and areas for growth and goal setting.

    Sport

Cross Country enthusiasts will need to get training at home as well as at school! Students  have been lapping the oval. The St. Joseph's Cross Country will be held on Friday 6 May. Come along and cheer the St. Joseph's runners on. Go Penola! Go MacKillop!

The Small Schools Cross Country is the following week on the 13 May. You will receive further information about this event next week.

The Small School Girls 10+ years of age, Softball trials will be on 18 May at The Gums. I will be managing the district team again this year.

Do enjoy your week and I hope see you on Monday for the ANZAC Day march.

    From the APRE

    We remember what Jesus did.

    His dying and rising-

So that everyone may be free.

    And we say

That we want to be bread and life for others

So that we too some day

    May be like Him.

To be some day where He is-

    With you.

    So we take this bread

Break it and share it with each other

    And prove we believe

That people are not without hope

    That we can be unafraid

    Of growing and living

    And dying

    And prove…

    That the impossible

    Is possible.

Help us to see with the eyes of faith so that we may recognize your hope-filled presence in our lives. Amen.

Like Jesus, the ANZACS show us an example of love and service

    Lest we forget

We remember what the ANZACs gave and we pray for all those affected by war.

    LEARNING AT ST JOSEPH'S

On Tuesday 19th April,  Inspire Maths teachers collaborated together to plan ways to deepen their impact on student learning so that every child experiences success. The teachers  really enjoyed the sessions on problem solving and supporting students to be able to think deeply.

    Wellbeing

Have fun with the daily activities on our Happiness Calendar. See how many you can achieve.  We will also be focusing on a different Key to Happiness (below) each fortnight.

Our FIRST Key to Happiness is - Giving.

    Every act of kindness counts

From small acts like a friendly smile, a few kind words, helping with bags, offering up our seat, to regular volunteering - there are lots of different ways we can be kind. It's not all about money - we can give our attention, time, knowledge, ideas, energy or support. We can give the benefit of the doubt too.

    Everyone needs kindness

Our acts of kindness might be for strangers, family, friends, colleagues or neighbours. They could be old or young, nearby or far away. It could be a one-off spontaneous gesture or something we do regularly. It could be a compassionate response in a time of crisis or need or simply because it’s a nice thing to do. There are always ways to be kind.

    ROSTER

We are in urgent need of helpers for tuckshop duty on Thursdays. We would love to see everyone joining in. It usually works out that you're rostered on twice a term. But with 'More hands making light work' it would certainly be less. Without your help tuckshop will not be able to continue.
