St Joseph's, Tara - Term 3 Week 6 2022 Newsletter
Our Vision & Mission Statements
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Week 6! The term is certainly flying by.
Leadership
Last week principals in the diocese travelled to Cunnamulla for the Leadership forum. We were warmly welcomed into the community by by the Kunja people and the Sacred Heart School community.
I learned a lot about the history of the area and the impact of settlement on First Nations people.
Throughout the forum, the theme of 'Staying on Mission' in terms of success for all students within a distinctive Catholic environment, was developed and contextualised through a process of dialogue, discernment and prioritisation about what will be required going forward.
We celebrated Mass and shared a meal with the local school and parish community, for the Feast of St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop.
Learning
I really missed being part of the students' learning journey when I was away last week. It was great to share in student reading groups, newspaper publishing, persuasive and descriptive writing, maths problem solving and a game of soccer this week.
Athletics
Congratulations to Rubie, Jorjah, Tamarah, Ella and Aldrich who represented St. Joseph's at the Small Schools Athletics trials last week. Ella and Aldrich will now represent the school as part of the Tara and District team by competing in the South West trials. Well done on your wonderful effort and achievement!
Transition Day
We are very excited to welcome 2023 Prep and older students to our next transition day on Wednesday 24 August from 8.30-10.45 a.m. Please bring a broad brimmed hat, a snack and a water bottle. The teachers have lots of fun learning planned and can't wait to see you all!
Enrolment applications and interviews for 2023 and 2024 are currently taking place. Please spread the word that NOW is the time to apply to enrol in St. Joseph's Tara.
Gymnastics
Gymnastics with trained gymnastics teachers from PCYC will provide three weeks of skills development commencing on Thursday 25 August.
Kite Festival
Great news! The amazing Kite Festival is on again this year with bigger, better and more exciting kites than ever before! Once again the students will make and decorate free kites at school that they can then fly and show at the Kite Festival on 27 August at the Polocross Grounds. Entry is free from 10 a.m. There are prizes for the best painted kites from each school, as well as other competitions for students, including cash prizes for best home made kites! Why not also make one at home and be in the running for the money? A free lunch will also be provided for students participating in the Kite Festival.
NRL
Footballs will be flying through the air at St. Joseph's on Monday 29 August as students participate in an Rugby league development program. Students are invited to wear their favourite footy team's colours. Cost $2.
Father's Day
We invite all those who take on a father's role in the lives of our students to join us on Tuesday 30 August at 12.45 to celebrate! A sausage sizzle lunch will be provided.
Spelling and Speaking Competitions
On Thursday 1 September, students in year 3-6 will participate in the local annual Speaking and Spelling Bee Competitions. More details about our school competition will follow.
Pupil Free Day
Parents please note: Friday 2 September is a holiday for students. Staff participate in the annual consistency of teacher judgment (CTJ) day and professional learning appropriate to their role.
St. Joseph's is hosting CTJ day. St. Joseph's Tara teachers and teachers from St. Maria Goretti Inglewood and St. Patrick's Mitchell will work together to pray, learn and ensure that all schools have a consistent understanding of the standard of achievement for a C. This is what students are expected to achieve each year.
During the process teachers will
- analyse and collectively discuss evidence of learning in Maths
- develop a shared language and consistent understandings of ‘achieving’ at the expected level for their year level in relation to AT, BELOW & ABOVE the achievement standard
- identify next steps for moving learner to the next level
Under and Over 8's Day
St. Joseph's is delighted to be hosting Under and Over 8's Day for the Small Schools in the region, including playgroups and Kindy on Friday 9 September from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. See the flyer for just some of the fabulous activities on offer.
Absence Notification
Reminder: Same day notification with reason for student absence is required as usual. Please note, a medical certificate from your doctor is required after a two days absence.
Enjoy the weeks ahead and be well.
Regards
