Transition Day
Last week's Wizard of Oz Transition Day was enjoyed by our 2023 preppies and our current 2022 students. Everyone arrived in costumes to suit the occasion and we paraded around the local Food Works to bring joy to the community. The three to six students then presented a play of the main events from the Wizard of Oz. Decorating placemats for the Wizard of Oz Long table luncheon took place before everyone got active with pin the heart on the Tin Man, Flying Monkey's ten pin bowling, Glenda Good Witch bubble challenge, Yellow Brick Road hopscotch, Scarecrow relay, Ruby Slipper balloon game and Bookmark design awards. The winning bookmark designs were by Jasmine Yr. 6 and Malia Yr. 1. The Wizard of Oz food was delicious with Scarecrow Straws, Monkey Wings, Sand Witches, Flying Monkey biscuits, Wicked Witch of the West cupcakes and Over the Rainbow Drink.
At St. Joseph's Tara we are blessed with very capable, generous and creative staff. A huge thank you to Mrs Bowman, Miss Lee, Mr Smith, Mrs Warwick, Miss Anne and Mrs Stapleton for their extraordinary coordination, preparation and contribution to, this year's Wizard of Oz Day. We can't wait to see what 2023 will bring!
Don't forget the last transition day for the year takes place on

From the APRE
Recently we celebrated two special days in the church calendar.
All Saints (1 Nov) and All Souls (2 Nov) Day gives us the opportunity to remember the Saints and those who have died.
“All Hallows” is an old English name for “All Saints” and that’s why the evening before, the eve of the feast, became known as “Hallow e’en.”
When we think about saints, we often think about people who were absolutely amazing; people who did things that we can never imagine doing; people who loved God more than we think we ever could. Saints however, were everyday people like you and me, who made a choice to live for God the best they could. They weren’t perfect, but they did their best to live the way God wanted. Some of the saints changed the direction of the world. Some of them made a difference in their region or more local community.
Saints are all very different types of people, with different types of jobs and different people they cared for, but in the end, they are still just people like you and me. They listened to the teachings of Jesus and made sure they lived them the best way they could. They loved God with all their heart and soul, and tried to do God’s work before anything else. They cared for the people and the world around them in ways that made a positive difference. They prayed and praised God, letting their light shine out for all the world to see. They listened to Jesus’ teaching in the gospel reading today: they chose to live Jesus way and because of that, they are blessed.
What things could we be doing to shine our light for others so that they will know God loves them deeper than anyone else ever could?
May God who loves us more than we can imagine
fill us with love and compassion.
May Jesus teach us how to live as saints.
May the Spirit guide us in all we do and say.
Let us go in peace.
During All Souls Day I remember those who have died. I smile remembering that my Dad taught me to be generous of spirit and he taught me naughty rhymes! I remember the scent of violets from my mother's face cream as she hugged me and I give thanks for them every day. They helped me to know what God's love is like.
Remembrance Day is like that too. We remember those who gave their lives for love of country, for the freedom of those they love. Lest we forget!
Learning at St Joseph's
" Over the last couple of months, we have been exploring 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz' by L. Frank Baum. Many activities have cumulated in our Book Week celebration last Thursday and the Emerald City Book Fair . It was wonderful to see everyone dressed up as a character from the book - Dorothy, Munchkins, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, witches, Uncle Henry, guards, Flying Monkey and Scarecrow. Some of the highlights from the day were: Enactment of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by Years 3-6, Scarecrow relay race, Pin the heart on the Tin Man, Feeding Toto, Glinda's Bubbles, Flying Monkeys game and the fabulous long table lunch.
Thank you for supporting our Book Week celebration and Emerald City Book Fair."
Regards
Mrs Bowman
