Tara and District Athletics Carnival - Hannaford
A huge congratulations to the students who were selected to compete at the Tara and District Athletics Carnival in Hannaford this week. We have heard nothing but wonderful comments about our students, the way they participated and the sportsmanship they showed. We will wait in anticipation for the results to be sent through to the school.
A big thank you to Tammy Ash and Anne Furniss who attended as school staff to support the running of the carnival.
Thank you Foodworks!
A big thank you to Foodworks for generously donating healthy food items for our students. This term we have had a whole school focus on healthy lunchboxes and this contribution has supported the success in achieving healthier habits to ensure maximum learning. The students are loving all the donated apples even more now that the Imperial family has donated a slinky machine for us to have slinky apples at break times. Thank you for this generous donation!
2024 Enrolments - all year levels
We are currently taking enrolments for 2024 in all year levels. If you know of anyone who is interested in enroling their child at St Joseph's for 2024 and would like more information please tell them to make contact with the school office or find our enrolment information and forms on the school website. The flyer below has been placed on the school's Facebook page. Please feel free to share to your friends and the wider community and tell them how great St Joseph's is.
God bless,

Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop
On Tuesday 8th August we celebrated the Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop. It was such a wonderful day of celebrations with Sr Di Phillips, Mary Porter and Fr Jack joining the school community for a liturgy, Mary MacKillop activities and most importantly a celebration cake.
We certainly saw the wonderful values of the Josephite charism shining through each and every member of the school throughout the day.
Learning at St Joeys
Learning in Prep for Term 3
English: Students are exploring information texts, their structure, the information they contain and how they differ from stories. They are developing an understanding of how information texts are used to convey information across years and distances so that people can continue to learn. Students will identify language and text features within the information text and identify the similarities and differences between information and narrative texts. An ongoing focus will continue to develop student knowledge and skills for sight words, letter sound knowledge and vocabulary building. Students will use this knowledge and understanding to comprehend the texts they are reading and to create their own pieces of text. They will continue to develop their writing ability by practicing the skills of recognising sounds and being able to write the corresponding letter to create words in a legible manner. Students will create their own information text to convey information about our science topic to others within our school. During Guided Reading, students will develop the ability to read and understand more complex texts through the skills of decoding words and sentences. They will develop the skills of recognising letters, gain meaning from words and understand the meaning sentences convey.
Religion: This term in Religion students will be learning about God and his role in the creation of our planet and within Jesus’ life. They have learnt about the creation stories within the Bible as well as within other cultures. Students will build an understanding of the roles these stories have in helping us know how to live as humans in this world. They will develop a knowledge about the practices and importance of ceremony within the Catholic Church and communicate their own ideas and perspectives on the different practices. Students will practice their ability to be still and silent as a way of communicating with God and develop an understanding of what they believe their role is within God’s plan.
Mathematics: Students will develop an understanding of the seasons and the days of the week and how different measurements of time affect our lives. They will create individual timetables that links the days of the week the days of the week to events and experiences within their lives. Students will develop displays of the seasons that demonstrate what each of the seasons mean for living things and how the seasons relate to the students’ lives by discovering how humans change their behaviour in certain seasons. They will continue to practice their numeracy and number skills throughout the term by exploring counting in authentic ways through whole class, small group and individual activities. Within daily mathematics rotations students will continue to explore their number knowledge and to develop and increase their ability to apply their learning with more complex and engaging problems.
Science: Students will explore the focus inquiry question, “what is a living thing and what do they require to survive”. They will learn about living things through investigating and exploring how vegetables and fruits grow. Students will experiment with different conditions for growing their own vegetable garden.
Technologies: Students will use suitable technologies to create and design solutions for a functioning vegetable garden. They will use tools in the ways they were intended, and design garden layouts and tools where required to help the vegetables to grow.
Integrated learning throughout Term 3 will allow students to connect their understanding and skills across all Key Learning Areas to develop a deep level of understanding. Because of this, it is extremely important that all students regularly attend school to allow them to demonstrate success in their learning.
The students are engaged in their learning so far this term and are looking forward to starting the planting our garden in the coming weeks.

Student Safety
EVERY CHILD HAS THE RIGHT TO FEEL SAFE
It is a legislative requirement that all non-state schools have at least two nominated staff members to whom a student can report the behaviour of another staff member that the student considers inappropriate. We call these specially trained staff members School Student Protection Contacts, or SSPCs. Each SSPC has been nominated by the principal in recognition of their integrity, approachability and knowledge in the area of student protection. Whilst students are encouraged to speak up to any trusted adult in the school community, it is important that they know they can access these specific staff members at any time should they have worries, queries or concerns. You will have noticed posters throughout the school depicting our current SSPCs. The SSPCs are also published on our school website along with information about our student protection processes. In everything we do at St Joseph's Tara student safety is our highest priority, therefore the SSPCs at our school are key personnel in our overall safeguarding processes. Please see the poster below depicting our current SSPC team.
