Our Vision & Mission Statements
From the Acting Principal
Welcome to the Week 10 Newsletter!
End of Term
Wow! Can you believe that we are coming to the end of Term 3. What a wonderfully busy term we have had with lots of learning and fun. A huge thank you to the fabulous staff that we have here at St Joseph's for being so dedicated to the students in their care. I wish all my staff, parents and students a most relaxing and carefree holiday and I look forward to seeing everyone back for the downward slope that is called Term 4. Term 4 resumes Tuesday 3 October.
Camp Fundraising continues!
Last Friday, a number of Year 3-6 parents (and friends and family) held a bake sale to raise money for the up-and-coming Outback Experience Camp. The sale sold out within a matter of hours. A huge thank you to Lesley Truebody for co-ordinating and running the sale along with her band of helpers and bakers - Emily Boyle, Katie Davis, Monica Moran, Ellen Andersen, Joan Grose, Steph Smitham, Lucia Moran, Therese Moran, Anne Furniss, Dorene Warwick. The sale raised a total of $680 which is an amazing effort for a few hours work. An updated camp letter will be sent out to the Yr 3-6 Parents tomorrow.
Swimming Lessons - Term 4
Term 4 will see all students attend swimming lessons as part of the PE curriculum. Dates for your calendar will be Thursday 12th and Friday 13th October. The Tara pool will be up and running by this time, so students will walk down for their lessons both days. Please keep an eye out for further detailed information which will be sent out early next term via the Parent Portal.
2024 Enrolments - all year levels
We are currently taking enrolments for 2024 in all year levels. If you know of anyone who is interested in enroling their child at St Joseph's for 2024 and would like more information please tell them to make contact with the school office or find our enrolment information and forms on the school website. The flyer below has been placed on the school's Facebook page. Please feel free to share to your friends and the wider community and tell them how great St Joseph's is.
God bless,

From the APRE
Holy Land Pilgrimage!
On Friday of this week I am so very lucky to be joining fellow principals, APREs, members of the Toowoomba Catholic School office and former Bishop of Toowoomba, Robert McGuckin for a 17 day pilgrimage to the Holy Land. This is a wonderful opportunity for me not only to explore my own faith further but to also see first hand the culture and way of living for people in these areas. Some of the activities that are planned for us, mass on a boat on the Dead Sea, renewing our baptisimal promises in Lake Galilee, climbing Mt Calvary to the place where Jesus died on the cross to save us and walking through the gates into the Old City of Jerusaleum.
I am very much looking forward to sharing this experience with the staff and students on my return.
Learning at St Joeys
From the library........
This term, the students have been responding to the short-listed Book Week books. We have explored Bev and Kev, The Farmhouse, Frank's Red Hat, Lionel and Me, and Evie and Rhino. They have responded to the texts in various ways and with enthusiasm. We look forward to having our annual Book Week celebration next term on 24 October.
Student Protection Week
Last week was Student Protection Week. Promoting this week is a great opportunity to discuss with our students ways to keep themselves safe from others. Throughout the Relationship and Sexual Education and Daniel Morcombe curriculum lessons, students identified who their safe people and places are and also what parts of our body are sacred and not for others to see. I thank Mrs Katie Davis for supporting the students through these lessons and providing opportunities for discussion and activities to ensure we all understand how to protect ourselves from potential harm.
Hockey
For the past 4 weeks, the students have been learning hockey skills during their PE lessons. We thank Toowoomba Hockey for visiting us here in Tara each week to provide the St Joseph's students this wonderful opportunity. The students had such a fun time and the improvement that was visible each week is a credit to the students and Toowoomba Hockey.

Next P&F Event - 'Spooky' Trivia - On Friday 6th October the P&F will be hosting a Trivia Night. This will be open to the wider Tara community and held at the WDRC Function Room. As this is a large event, many hands will make light work so the support of our parent body is crucial for the night to be a success.
If you are able to help with any of the following jobs, even for a short amount of time, could you please contact Monica via the front office.
- Cooking in the kitchen on the night
- Serving to tables on the night
- Setting up and decorating the hall – 3.30pm to 4.30pm
- Cleaning and packing up afterwards – close of the night approximately 10.30pm
It is with great excitement to announce the kind sponsorship from Origin Energy for our Spooky Trivia night held on the 6 October.
We look forward to partnering with Orgin in the future.

Student Safety
EVERY CHILD HAS THE RIGHT TO FEEL SAFE
It is a legislative requirement that all non-state schools have at least two nominated staff members to whom a student can report the behaviour of another staff member that the student considers inappropriate. We call these specially trained staff members School Student Protection Contacts, or SSPCs. Each SSPC has been nominated by the principal in recognition of their integrity, approachability and knowledge in the area of student protection. Whilst students are encouraged to speak up to any trusted adult in the school community, it is important that they know they can access these specific staff members at any time should they have worries, queries or concerns. You will have noticed posters throughout the school depicting our current SSPCs. The SSPCs are also published on our school website along with information about our student protection processes. In everything we do at St Joseph's Tara student safety is our highest priority, therefore the SSPCs at our school are key personnel in our overall safeguarding processes. Please see the poster below depicting our current SSPC team.
