History

St Joseph's School, Tara was opened by the Sisters of St Joseph in 1965 under the governance of the Catholic Archdiocese of Toowoomba.

The Sisters of St Joseph sisters stayed for 13 years until the Sacred Heart sisters carried on their good work. The first lay principal was appointed in 1978.

School buildings and grounds have been developed over the years and by 1999 the school classrooms were renovated and air-conditioned. By 2010 the school had a large undercover area built and a substantial investment in technology was made.

The school celebrated the canonisation of St Mary MacKillop in 2010, a significant event for the Sisters of St Joseph, Australia and for our school.

In 2015, the school and parish collectively celebrated its Golden Jubilee.

In every way the school continues to be true to its motto Faith - Friendship - Honour and continues in its commitment to providing quality learning in a caring and supportive environment for the families of Tara and surrounding regions.

As a systemic school in the Catholic Diocese of Toowoomba, the story of Jesus is central to school life, the school and broader community.
